Meredith Reynolds Cough was born and raised in Plympton, Massachusetts. She received a BFA in painting from Portland School of Art (now Maine College of Art) in 1989. In 1988 she began her family, raising three children in Portland with her husband Jamie. She has exhibited in juried shows and at coastal galleries in Maine. In the early 90’s her work focused on interiors, specifically churches and cathedrals. As time progressed, focused on mothering, she sought out quiet moments to paint the landscape. In the past five years with her children grown, her interest moved to the figure, strongly influenced by viewing the Outwin Portrait Competition at the National Portrait Gallery. She is drawn to the story of the people of our time, acknowledging that the medium of oil paint provides historical continuity to paintings that came centuries before us.
